A Jetsetter’s Adventure
Hello Kenya, Goodbye USA
A Jetsetter’s Adventure!
Finally, after more delays than a politician’s promises, we’re bidding adieu to the good ol’ USA and saying a cheerful “Habari” (that’s hello in Kenyan, folks!) to Kenya! Our grand plan involved a KLM flight, which is like Delta’s international cousin, taking us from Austin to Nairobi. Brace yourselves, it’s a journey of epic proportions: 9.5 hours from Austin to Amsterdam, a quick 90-minute layover (cue the anxiety), and then another 9-hour flight to Nairobi International Airport. We arrived three hours before liftoff, armed with a whopping 8 pieces of luggage.
To upgrade or not to upgrade?
We pondered this question for quite some time. After some extensive social media detective work, we decided to channel our inner YOLO spirit (You Only Live Once!). Knowing we’d land in Kenya on a Friday night and that Felipe had a date with the office bright and early on Monday, the decision was as easy. And let me tell you, we didn’t regret it one bit.
Austin to Amsterdam- Amsterdam to Nairobi
Meet our new BFF – the airline with lay-flat seats. Felipe and I cozied up immediately on both flights. We dined shortly after takeoff, then I popped some melatonin and enjoyed a solid 4-5 hours of beauty sleep. After that, it was breakfast, a movie, and viola- we’d arrived.
Just Some of the food that KLM served:
KML Lounge
In Amsterdam, we had a measly hour and a half. Not nearly enough time to truly savor the lounge experience. But if you ever find yourself with more time, sign up for a lounge shower – a luxury we missed out on. My hubby grabbed some grub, which was decent, but I opted to pass. One thing’s for sure about business class – they keep your belly happy and well-fed.
We've Arrived!!
After 33 hours we arrived to Nairobi. Customs was a whirlwind, but we emerged victorious in less than 20 minutes. Lucky for us, our trusty driver awaited, ready to whisk us off to our hotel near the Village Market. Let the battle with jetlag commence!
Now, let’s dive headfirst into this new Kenyan chapter – two years of adventure await!
